Artwork from 3 students chosen for congressional exhibition
The works of three Maumee Valley students are appearing in the 41st Annual Ninth Congressional District Invitational High School Art Exhibition through March 31 at the Toledo Museum of Art. The students are Addy Jaffe '26, Alex Ni '24, and JJ Sills '24.
The juried event is presented in partnership between The Arts Commission and Congressman Marcy Kaptur, who has been recognizing artistic excellence by regional high school students since 1983. A public ceremony is Sunday, March 10, starting with a reception at 2 p.m. Remarks and student recognitions begin at 3 p.m. in museum's Little Theater.
Alex's watercolor painting titled "Numbed" was a runner up for the Congressional Prize, the exhibition's top award and which comes with the privilege of having the work shown in the U.S. Capitol for a year. Alex won the Congressional Prize last year. He also is receiving the Lourdes University Award, and Addy's mixed-media piece titled "Splintering" is receiving the Vint’illage Award. Both are sponsor awards and come with a monetary prize as well.
This exhibition is also made possible through the generous support of The University of Toledo Department of Art, Lourdes University, Bowling Green State University, the Law Firm of Eastman and Smith, Spengler Nathanson, Toledo.com, Toledo Sister Cities International, The Tile Club, Toledo Friends of Photography, and Vin’tillage.
Maumee Valley Country Day School is the only PreK-12th grade accredited, co-educational, and independent school in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
